Pharmacia Co

Pharmaceutical company formed in 2000 from the merger of Pharmacia & Upjohn with Monsanto and its Searle drug business, with roots in the Swedish company Pharmacia founded at Stockholm in 1911 and the American Upjohn company of 1886. Sold medicines including celecoxib for arthritis, latanoprost for glaucoma and hormone products, ran research sites in Sweden, Italy and the United States, and was bought by Pfizer for about sixty billion dollars in 2003.
