German public research university in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, founded in 1818 as the Rhine University and named after Frederick William III, and one of the country's universities of excellence. Its Pharmaceutical Institute within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences teaches the state examination degree in pharmacy and runs departments of pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical technology and biopharmaceutics, pharmaceutical biology and pharmacology and toxicology, with research in medicinal chemistry and drug targets, and the university's medical faculty and university hospital carry out clinical pharmacology and clinical trials.
