Indian statutory body in New Delhi, established by act of parliament in 1956 under the ministry of education, which oversees university education in the country. Recognises universities and deemed universities, sets minimum standards for teaching and examinations, disburses grants to central and state universities and colleges, runs national eligibility tests for teaching posts and issues regulations that pharmacy and science faculties must follow.
