Pilar Suárez de Cepeda Fuentes, graduated in Chemistry at Universidad de Oviedo (Spain, 2019) and specialized in organic, medicinal and biological chemistry. As an undergraduated student, she took part of several groups at the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry of Universidad de Oviedo as an undergraduate student, working in nanoscience and biomaterials science in Professor Alejandro Presa Soto and Professor Francisco Javier García Alonso researching groups. As a postgraduate, she completed a Master's degree in Chemical Research and Industrial Chemistry at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (Spain, 2021), acquiring knowledge in chemical and biological instrumental techniques applied at both industrial and academic sectors. During this period, she took part of Professor Concepción González Bello's group (Department of Organic Chemistry and located at Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials) focussing her research on the development of new antibacterial agents with innovative mechanisms of action for the treatment of infections caused by multi-resistant pathogens. She is carrying out her PhD studies at Chemical Science and Technology programme at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Her thesis, entitled “New therapies and clinical diagnostictest targeting resistant pathogens and bacterial virulence mechanisms”, includes several research lines pursuing the development of enzymatic inhibitors and chemical tools in biology through the identification, design, manufacture and testing of new organic molecules. As part of her training, she also completed a five-month pre-doctoral fellowship with Professor Marc Vendrell's group at the University of Edinburgh (UK, 2025). During this experience, she worked on the development of a new technology for the identification of bacteria and mammalian cells through fluorescence microscopy.
