Polymyxin B (CAS 1405-20-5), supplied by Beijing Global Biologicals as a pharmaceutical-grade antibiotic, is a mixture of two closely related compounds (B1 and B2) derived from Bacillus polymyxa with bactericidal activity against most Gram-negative bacilli except Proteus species. It works by binding to and disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, and is used topically, including in first-aid preparations such as Neosporin.
