Podophyllotoxin (CAS 4354-76-1, 98% specification) is a lignan anti-tumor compound extracted from the roots and stems of Podophyllum-genus plants in the Berberidaceae family — in China, primarily sourced from Gansu Province — appearing as an odorless, hygroscopic white crystalline powder; it is reported to inhibit herpes virus and metaphase mitosis, and has traditionally been formulated into poultices and tinctures.
