My vast interest in technology developed at early stage in my life and led me to pursue my undergraduate studies in the field of biomedical technology from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Upon completing my bachelor’s degree in 2001, I joined a healthcare organization in Riyadh, called King Abdulaziz Medical City, as a Clinical Engineer. Five years later, in 2006, I was appointed as the Director of the Clinical Engineering Department in the same organization. The clinical engineering department, in the medical city, oversees the implementation and support of many medical technologies including a number of medical informatics solutions. During the year of 2007, I started working on implementing a comprehensive cardiac medical informatics solution that covers most of the cardiac clinical activates. This project was named as the Cardiac Image and Information Management System, or CIIMS. In the beginning of 2009, the CIIMS was launched, and a group of people were hired to provide support and continue expanding and enhancing the solution. I then moved to be the head of this team.
Although I have been involved in managing technical departments in the past few years, my knowledge and passion is centered on hands-on technical problem solving. I have been the key developer in many development projects, such as developing a software that interfaces to a number of medical systems to provide healthcare workers with a single source for viewing patient data. Another project was the development of a tool that rectified corrupted PACS study reports, due to a bad data restore.
In the past few years, I have attended many courses and conferences on medical technologies and informatics. Those courses included HL7, DICOM, and IHE. In July 2008, I passed the HL7 Interfacing certificate exam and became certified from the HL7 organization as an “HL7 Certified Specialist”.
I am very interested in the healthcare data mining, and my long term goal is to master this field, and eventually, assist in advancing it. To achieve this goal, I have pursued my Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Biomedical Informatics from the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Nova Southeastern University. I have been longing to take the next step and pursue the Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree within this field and in the area of data mining.
