Ron is a scientific leader with more than 25 years of industry experience in cellular pharmacology, drug discovery and preclinical drug development of small molecule drug candidates against various target classes and in multiple therapeutic areas. His PhD degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology is from the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. At Takeda for over a decade, Ron was Director of Cellular Pharmacology where, as a cell biology expert and drug discovery team leader, he supported multiple successful drug discovery projects that produced clinical candidates, including three drugs that entered clinical trials for oncology indications. Under his leadership, cellular pharmacology teams developed and conducted phenotypic and target engagement cell-based assays for drug screening and target validation as well as ex vivo pharmacodynamic assays. For multiple oncology projects, he designed and managed in vivo efficacy and pharmacodynamic studies. Prior to Takeda, he worked at Syrrx and Idun Pharmaceuticals. At Idun, he supported the AKT kinase inhibitor program with in vitro and cellular assays and in vivo testing. For the past 7 years, he has been consulting pharmaceutical and biotech organizations on all aspects of target biology and validation, drug discovery, cellular assay development and validation, interpretation of data and establishing mechanism of action, in vivo pharmacology and CRO management of outsourced studies.
