Bio

Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo (EPUSP), with doctoral research conducted at the Laboratório de Engenharia Biomédica (LEB-USP) in partnership with the Hospital Universitário da USP (HU-USP), focusing on the monitoring of extubated patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). He is currently a Assistant Professor at the Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo, in the Departamento de Engenharia de Telecomunicações e Controle (PTC), affiliated with the Laboratório de Engenharia Biomédica (LEB-USP), where he works on research, teaching, and technological development in Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on the development, validation, and application of new technologies for monitoring and clinical support in intensive care, with emphasis on the acquisition, processing, and analysis of biomedical signals and images. His work includes high-resolution physiological signals, video, thermography, machine learning, remote photoplethysmography (rPPG), biomedical instrumentation, computational modeling, and physiological analysis applied to critically ill patients. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), with previous experience in hardware, firmware, electronic circuit design, programming, digital signal processing, and statistical analysis. He has also developed research in Experimental Neuroscience, including transcutaneous spinal direct current stimulation (tsDCS), neural stimulation, motor control, electrophysiology, and neuromuscular signal analysis. He was awarded the Biomedical Engineering Innovation Award for the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), granted by the Sociedade Brasileira de Engenharia Biomédica and Boston Scientific in 2023, as the proposer of the CARE project. He also has solid experience in normative testing of electromedical equipment, including electrical safety, essential performance, risk management, biomedical instrumentation, and laboratory quality, based on standards such as ABNT NBR IEC 60601, ISO 14971, and ISO/IEC 17025. His areas of expertise include ICU technologies, biomedical signal processing, biomedical image analysis, computational and physiological modeling, medical device development and testing, clinical engineering, and regulatory aspects of healthcare technologies. His academic work is characterized by the integration of engineering and health sciences, aiming to improve monitoring, assessment, and decision-support strategies for critically ill patients in intensive care.
