Bio

I obtained my PhD at the UCM in 2010. My research was focused on the synthesis and biological activity studies in tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid natural products. During this period I acquired experience in the structural elucidation of complex scaffolds using NMR facilities. In addition, I was trained in parallel synthesis to carry on SAR studies. As a result of this work, 9 publications in refereed journals, 1 book and 13 presentations at national and international meetings came out. During my PhD, I also spent 5 months in Prof. Ganesan´s group (University of Southampton) working in the synthesis of Malformin and analogues in order to carry on biological studies. During my predoctoral period at the UCM, as a fellow and Honorary Collaboratoin I taught in Pharmacy degree in Spanish in the subjects of Organic Chemistry I and II, Pharmaceutical Chemistry I and II and Organic Synthesis (a total of 90 hours) . Since March 2011 till March 2013, I was working in Prof. Dixon's group at the University of Oxford after being awarded a prestigious Marie Curie fellowship. My research project involved the design and development of enantioselective isocyanoacetate addition reactions under cooperative base and Lewis acid catalysis. As a junior researcher, I managed my own research project, supervised a first year PhD student and frequently proof read other member’s theses, research updates and manuscripts for publication. As a result of this work, 4 publications in refereed journals, and 2 presentations in international meetings came out. During this postdoctoral stay I actively participated in the teaching of first-year students of the Chemistry Degree at the University of Oxford linked to the Wadham College. I participated in the preparation of the students for the important First Preliminary Organic Chemistry Exam.During my academic career, I have had the opportunity to benefit from national grants, such as "Collaboration Fellowship", "FPU Fellowship" for carrying out the PhD, "FPU Fellowship for PhD stays in foreign countries" and international grants such as "Marie Curie Fellowship" for a Postdoctoral stay of 2 years at Oxford University. Since September 2013 to December 2014, I was working as a Junior Researcher in Villapharma Research Company, managing a 5 researchers group to develop API´s synthesis for Janssen S.A. through heterocyclic and macrocyclic chemistry; in parallel I was synthesizing compounds ready for 18F isotope introduction to carry out PET studies in vivo. From January 2015 to January 2016, I was working at UAM as a Postdoctoral Research in Prof. Cardenas´s group. I was carrying out the research in the development of first-row transition metal catalyzed reactions for the formation of C-C and C-B bonds starting from low functionalized reagents, with the aim of performing wide-scope, environmentally friendly transformations. In addition to the above mentioned experience, from January to november 2016 I attended a Pharmaceutical Industry and Regulatory Affairs Master in order to acquire knowledge and experience in other Pharmaceutical areas, and the same time I was working as a Quality Assurance Technician in Medinsa-Aristo. I continued working as a Quality Assurance Technician in the same company until september 2017. From september 2017 I am a lecturer at USP-CEU university, where I have worked as a full-time lecturer teaching Pharmacy and Pharmacy & Biotechnology degrees in both Spanish and English. The teaching that I have taught encompasses a wide variety of subjects: Organic Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry in Biotechnology, Protein Chemistry and Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry I and II . As a result of the favorable teaching evaluations I obtained Ángel Herrera Award "Best teaching work" at the Faculty of Pharmacy. From september 2018 I am a postgraduate lecturer in the interuniversity Master in Drug Discovery (USP-CEU, UCM, UAH) teaching the following subjects: drug design, School of drug discovery and Medicinal Chemistry, Methodologies for the structural determination of drugs and Study of molecular recognition phenomena and Natural products in drug discovery. In addition to teaching, I work on the synthesis and biological evaluation of dual inhibitors CK2/HDAC, liposomes and PROTACs designed for cancer treatment. From this period at USP-CEU, 4 publications in referees journals and 17 presentations in national/international meeting came out. Throughout my research-teaching career at UCM, UAM and at USP-CEU where I continue today, I have directed advanced student works: co-directed 2 Tesi di Laurea (1 at the UCM in 2010 and another one at USP-CEU in 2021); co-directed 3 TFM (2 at UAM in 2015 and 1 at USP-CEU in 2019), directed 4 TFM from 2018 to 22, 6 TFG from 2018 to 22 and I am supervising 2 PhD students at USP-CEU. I should point out that 3 of these works received a distinction. The h-index of my scientific work is 8, with a total of 343 citations and an average of 21.44/artic
