Electrical Engineer (Faculty of Industrial Engineering at Catholic University of Sao Paulo,1969) and BSc in Physics (Institute of Physics at University of Sao Paulo,1970). MSc in Electrical Engineering in 1976 and PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1986, from the Polytechnic Faculty/School at the University of Sao Paulo (EPUSP), Brazil, with the PhD thesis in Biomedical Engineering. Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto/Canada from 1989 until 1991 where developed postdoctoral research in Biological Non-Linear Systems and Chaos, analyzing Chaotic Behavior of Human Systems, mainly Gastrointestinal System, in the Biomedical Engineering Institute at that University. Visiting Professor at the University of Tucuman/Argentina in 1992 teaching a graduate course about Chaos in Biological Systems. Associate Professor of EPUSP in 1992, through public tender using the results of postdoctoral research, where started working in 1970 as Assistant Teacher. Full Professor at EPUSP in 2004 competing in public tender-tenured position. Retired at University of Sao Paulo on May 2021and worked immediately until the end of 2022 as Senior Lecturer in EPUSP. During almost 53 years worked at University of Sao Paulo developing activities of teaching, researching, university extension and administrative tasks, creating the graduate and undergraduate courses in Biomedical Engineering with other Professors at EPUSP. Founder and maintained leader of the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the Polytechnic Faculty at the University of Sao Paulo (LEB/EPUSP) in 1986 along with Professor Andre Fabio Kohn, where developed the main activities of Research and Development, in instrumentation, metrology, signal processing, biomedical/clinical engineering, modelling of biological systems, and standardization, testing and certification of medical equipment and others health products. This Laboratory plays very important role in Brazilian biomedical engineering community, in formation of researchers, in development of new products and devices as well as in elaboration of standardization and Brazilian regulatory directives. Creator and Director of the Division of Testing and Calibration inside LEB/EPUSP from1995 until December of 2022, which was accredited by the Brazilian Quality Certification Agency, named National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology of Brazil (INMETRO), from 2003 until 2020 for mandatory medical equipment testing. Developed partnership from 1992 until 2005 with national and international medical equipment companies overseeing product concepts, design, product and process engineering of many prototypes latter manufactured and marketed in Brazil. During his carrier at EPUSP and other private Engineering Faculties, supervised more than 500 graduate and undergraduate students, lectured more than 35 undergraduate and graduate courses (including 1 graduate in private hospital) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical/Clinical and Product/Processing Engineering for more than 10 000 engineering, math and physics students, receiving 8 distinctions/awards as Best Professor of the Year. Along his carrier, supervised 26 MSc, 7 PhD (including 1 in Dental Faculty) and 3 foreign European students involved with double degree between EPUSP and European Engineering Faculties, besides been the head of 27 R&D projects sponsored by companies and governmental agencies. Has three patents and 1 pending patent, Editor and writer of 1 chapter of the book named 500 Years of Engineering in Brazil (Brazilian literary ward) in 2005, translated "Modern Control Engineering" of K. Ogata for didactic reason, wrote 6 book chapters, published 45 revised/refereed papers/articles in Brazilian and international journals, magazines, newspapers and newsletters, presented 96 conference papers and posters in Brazil and overseas, published 33 Reports of dissertation and thesis of supervised graduate students, presented 43 lecturer speeches in many countries, being reviewer of many Brazilian and international scientific and technical journals and Brazilian governmental funding agencies. Acted and served in several administrative activities at EPUSP, such as Head of the Department of Telecommunications and Control Engineering, Director of Graduate Degree Program of Electrical Engineering, Chairman of the Culture and Extension Commission of EPUSP and Chairman of the Management Board of the USP Science Museum. Worked in Clinical Hospital at the Medicine Faculty of the University of Sao Paulo from 1975 to 1980. Worked as external consultant in Control, Quality and Clinical/Medical Engineering from 1975 to 1988. Former President and Treasurer of the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering, Member of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Society of Metrology, Chairman of several Study Commissions of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and IFBME Brazilian Representative in the Clinical Engineering Department.
