My name is Catarina Luz and I am a dedicated pharmaceutical engineer and researcher with a passion for advancing drug development and delivery technologies. Currently I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology, specializing in solid oral dosage forms and process development of oral drug products. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon, where I laid the foundation for my journey in pharmaceutical sciences. Building upon mine undergraduate studies, I pursued a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Instituto Superior Técnico. My master's thesis, conducted in collaboration with Hovione, focused on implementing dry coating as an alternative technique to enhance powder flowability, making it suitable for direct compression. I have gained valuable industry experience as an Associate Scientist at Hovione, where I focused on oral drug product development. My role encompassed both laboratory work and project management, allowing the comprehension and understanding of the challenges and intricacies of drug product development. I worked closely with various drug product equipment, conducted experiments related to tablets production, contributing to the success of several projects. Additionally, I engaged in client interactions, providing valuable insights and support for client projects. I am affiliated with Hovione, a leading pharmaceutical company known for its expertise in drug development and manufacturing. My experience at Hovione has provided me with valuable insights into the pharmaceutical industry and has further fueled my passion for drug product development. I actively participate in academic and professional events, such as the alumni session of Instituto Superior Técnico, where I shared insights from my academic journey and professional experience at Hovione. Driven by a passion for drug product development, my future goal is to specialize further in this area through my ongoing Ph.D. studies. I aim to contribute to the advancement of pharmaceutical technology and innovation, ultimately making meaningful contributions to the healthcare industry.
