I'm Xiuping Wang, but most people call me Xayang. I'm currently pursuing my M.Sc. in Drug Discovery (Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine) at Hong Kong Baptist University, where I spend my days bridging ancient herbal wisdom with cutting-edge biotechnology. My research sits at the crossroads of computational drug discovery, analytical chemistry, and molecular pharmacology. I get genuinely excited about using AI tools like DeepPurpose and deep learning-based DTI prediction to screen for bioactive compounds hidden in traditional herbs. But I'm just as comfortable at the bench: I work with HPLC/LC-MS for chemical profiling, culture mammalian cells (293T, RAW264.7, CHO, HEK, and more), run MTT, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence assays, and handle everything from mouse microinjection to Morris water maze studies. Whether it's in silico screening or in vivo pharmacology, I love being hands-on across the entire R&D pipeline. Before HKBU, I worked as a Research Assistant at Westlake University, where I managed transgenic mouse projects and cranked out 170+ scientific reports using PCR, Western Blot, and HPLC. I'm also a co-author on a recent publication in Pharmaceutical Science Advances exploring biodegradable antimicrobial hydrogels for drug-resistant bacterial infections. Right now, I'm actively looking for opportunities in Hong Kong's pharmaceutical and TCM sectors—especially in R&D, QC, or regulatory affairs—where I can put my interdisciplinary toolkit to work and help bring traditional Chinese medicine into the modern, evidence-based era.
