2-Hydroxyisobutyric acid methyl ester (HBM) is supplied by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Shanghai Commerce Limited as a colorless liquid with an ester-like odor, used as a high-grade solvent and in photographic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural chemicals (MW 118.13, boiling point 137°C, purity no less than 99.5%). It is readily soluble in water and alcohol, chemically stable under normal handling, and the supplier, which does not manufacture the compound itself, distributes it across North America, Europe, Australasia, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
