Bacitracin (CAS 1405-87-4) is a pharmaceutical-grade mixture of cyclic polypeptides produced by Bacillus licheniformis, supplied by Beijing Global Biologicals, which trades rather than manufactures the compound. It disrupts both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by interfering with cell wall and peptidoglycan synthesis, and is used almost exclusively as a topical preparation due to its toxicity and poor oral bioavailability.
