Colistin Sulphate

Colistin sulphate (CAS 1264-72-8, molecular formula C52H98N16O13·H2SO4) is a polymyxin-class antibiotic derived from Bacillus polymyxa that disrupts Gram-negative bacterial cell membranes. It is used as a veterinary feed additive and therapeutic for livestock, poultry, and aquaculture infections such as E. coli and Salmonella, and in human medicine as a last-resort treatment for multidrug-resistant infections including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii; the WHO classifies it as a Critically Important Antimicrobial, and its use is regulated with enforced withdrawal periods in animals.
