DCC has the molecular formula C13H22N2 and a molecular weight of 206.33. It appears as a white to light-yellow crystal or transparent liquid, with a melting point of 33-35C and a boiling point of 154-156C (1.47 kPa); it is insoluble in water but soluble in benzene, ethanol and diethyl ether. It is used mainly as a dehydrating agent in the synthesis of amikacin, acyclovir, valacyclovir and glutathione, and can also be used to synthesize acid anhydrides, aldehydes, ketones and isocyanates. Packaged in 25 kg plastic drums.
