Professional Summary

Carlos Rodriguez Nogales holds a BSc in Pharmacy from University Complutense of Madrid (UCM), a MSc in Research, Development and Drug Innovation from University of Navarra (UNAV), and a PhD in Pharmacy from UNAV. He conducted his PhD with a grant from the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) under the supervision of Prof. María J. Blanco Prieto and Prof. Patrick Couvreur, at the Pharmaceutical Technology department of UNAV and the Institut Galien of Université Paris-Sud, respectively. His doctoral thesis mainly focused on the synthesis, formulation, physicochemical characterization and in vitro/in vivo evaluation of combinatorial squalenoyl nanoassemblies for application in pediatric cancer. He completed two main research stays abroad in 2016 and 2019 at the Université Paris-Sud in France with Dr. Didier Desmaële and Prof. Patrick Couvreur. For his PhD, he was awarded the “Extraordinary PhD Award” from the PhD Program “Health and Medicines” at UNAV. He was also awarded with the “Best Thesis Prize” by the Societé Français de Nanomédecine (SFNANO). Following the defense of his thesis, he briefly worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UNAV. Subsequently, he completed a 3-years postdoctoral stage in Prof. Eric Allémann’s research group at the Université de Genève (UNIGE) in Switzerland. During this period, he collaborated with the Belgian pharmaceutical company Galapagos NV for two years on the development of nanocrystal-polymer microparticles for long-term release intra-articular therapies. He also created a research platform at UNIGE to begin his own line of investigations in the field of wet milling, spray-drying for the intra-articular delivery of disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs. After that, Carlos continued his research in cancer nanomedicine and RNA nanotechnology as a researcher at UNAV. He was actively engaged in the Oncoliberyx project, developing nanovectors for the delivery of chemotherapeutic agents, in close collaboration with the Spanish pharmaceutical company PharmaMar. Since 2025, he serves as Assistant Professor at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
