Professional Summary
I have a diverse background in life sciences research and development in academic, government, non-governmental, and contract research organizations with 16 years of post-graduate professional experience. My areas of expertise include cell and molecular biology, in vitro toxicology, cell-based assay development and screening. I have authored 38 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, presented work at numerous scientific conferences, and been honored with international recognition for several high-impact publications in the field of predictive toxicology.
I have managed research teams focused on the conception, development, validation, and application of novel in vitro assays and technologies (i.e., New Approach Methods) for drug and chemical screening. With an emphasis on the reduction, refinement, and replacement of animal testing, my research has aimed to modernize toxicity testing by developing more biologically relevant assays using human-derived stem and primary cells in complex culture systems for medium- and high-throughput screening.
Notable innovations from my laboratory include a multi-species high-content imaging assay for hepatic carcinogenesis, a human stem cell adipogenesis assay for targeted nuclear receptor screening, a method for retrofitting hepatic metabolism to high-throughput assays, and a three-dimensional human thyroid microtissue assay for evaluating thyroid hormone biosynthesis.
