Professor Dimitrios Lamprou (PhD, MBA) is an academic leader specialising in advanced drug delivery, biofabrication, AI-enabled innovation, and translational sustainable healthcare. Actively engaged in international collaborations and multidisciplinary consortia in advanced therapeutics and healthcare innovation.
He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications and 500 conference abstracts, delivered more than 220 invited talks worldwide, and secured research funding exceeding £6 million. His work in printing and microfluidics has earned international recognition, with PubMed-based analytics ranking him among the top 0.01% and 0.07% of scholars globally in these fields, respectively. He has also been listed among Stanford University’s top 2% of scientists worldwide for several consecutive years.
Alongside his research, Professor Lamprou holds key academic leadership roles spanning education, internationalisation, and inclusive practice. As MSc Programme Director, he leads postgraduate programme development with a focus on curriculum innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and student experience. As Director of Internationalisation, he advances strategic partnerships across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He also contributes as an EDI Champion, supporting equality, diversity, inclusion, and opportunity across academic and research communities.
His work brings together research, education, and international collaboration to deliver meaningful impact in postgraduate learning, innovation, and healthcare translation. He has a particular interest in the convergence of pharmaceutics with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, biomaterials, and translational medicine.
He currently serves as Chair of the United Kingdom and Ireland Controlled Release Society (UKICRS), Co-Chair of the EPSRC Bio-Effective Surface Treatment Network, a member of the British Standards Institution (BSI) AMT/8 committee for Additive Manufacturing, and Section Editor-in-Chief for Pharmaceutics. His contributions have been recognised through awards including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Science Award, the SULSA Leaders Scheme Award, and an honorary doctorate from Semmelweis University.
At the Emerging Technologies Lab, Professor Lamprou and his team combine 3D printing, bioprinting, lab-on-a-chip systems, biomaterials, and therapeutic designs to develop personalised, implantable, and long-acting medical solutions. A defining feature of this work is the translation of research into practical healthcare applications addressing global challenges.
