Pharmacologist

Eleni A. Karavia graduated from the Department of Chemistry of the University of Patras in 2007 and in 2009 gained a master's degree in the inter-departmental postgraduate program "Medicinal Chemistry: Drug Discovery and Design" (University of Patras). In 2012, she received her PhD in pharmacology at the Department of Medicine, University of Patras. From 2012 to 2021, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Pharmacology Laboratory, School of Medicine, University of Patras, supported by research grants and scholarships, focusing her research on the mechanisms of diet-induced obesity and related metabolic disorders associated with the lipoprotein transport system, with particular emphasis on the HDL metabolic pathway. Since 2015, she worked as a team leader in the pharmacology laboratory. As a consequence of her 10 years of experience in the Pharmacology Laboratory, first as a PhD candidate and later as a post-doctoral research fellow, she has gained significant experience in many fields, such as: a) molecular, biochemical, and analytical techniques; b) handling of experimental animal models; c) performing extensive literature searches to collect bibliographical data related to chemical, pharmacological, and toxicological properties of different drugs and botanical substances; d) interpreting and evaluating toxicological and pharmacological data; e) handling, reviewing, and preparing scientific publications and reports; f) writing final reports required as a deliverable of projects. Also, she acquainted with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) since the Laboratory of Pharmacology had applied for GLP certification. Also, she had given lectures in the lessons “The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics: Contributing to the Preparation of the New Physician" (2017–2018), “Pharmacology I,” and “Pharmacology II” (2019–2021). From April to July 2021, she worked at the company "TheraFood IKE" with the main tasks of writing research proposals and providing scientific consulting. In August 2021, she was appointed as a permanent teacher of chemistry in the Secondary Education. From December 2023 until today, she works as an external partner in the company "GIOTIS SA" participating in the writing of research proposals and grants.
