Professional Summary
My advanced Science education began with an honors graduate degree program in the field of natural sciences and my specialization in medicinal chemistry began with the MSc in Medicinal Chemistry and then my PhD from Manchester University. These degrees have set the basic educational framework to tackle Drug Research and Development (R&D) which has emerged over the years. All the foregoing has enabled my over 50 years of R&D related to bioactive molecules from natural products and have set the stage for enabling me to make significant contributions to this project. My Publications over the past 50 years and patents received and pending are indicative of the achievements and contributions to science and this field of endeavor. It should be noted that in recent years there have been several recognitions and awards based on the contributions which I have made to scientific research.
My research contributions have not only been academic, but also the commercialization of my research for wealth creation. In my approximately fifty (50) years of R&D, I have discovered several bioactive molecules from the medicinal plants which are at different stages of commercial development for cancer and antiviral therapeutics. Based on the commercialization of my R&D, I have so far earned twelve (12) patents, plus several others pending.
I have authored/co-authored over 27 books most of which are science based. and has three in various stages of completion at this time. I was the first Caribbean person to publish a science textbook series for secondary schools, which was not only used in Jamaica and the Caribbean, but also in Africa. Some of my more recent publications include “Caribbean Herbs for Diabetes Management: Fact or Fiction?”, “Discovering the Future - The Emergence, Development and Future of Science and Technology in Jamaica”, and “Jamaica’s Ethnomedicine – Its Potential in the Healthcare System”. I have also published over 50 peer reviewed articles in major journals.
