Professional Summary

Jianmin Cui is Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Cui’s research focuses on ion channels that shape the electric signals for heart and brain function. His research on the mechanisms of ion channels sensing stimuli and opening the pore in response provides bases for understanding neurological disorders and cardiac arrhythmia and for developing new drug therapy. The discovery of ultrasound activation of mechanosensitive ion channels in his lab paves the way for the development of the sonogenetic approach to noninvasively stimulate the heart, brain and other tissues using ultrasound. Dr. Cui received Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from State University of New York at Stony Brook and a post-doctoral training at Stanford University. He was an assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University before moving to St. Louis in 2004. Prof. Cui is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
