Joana Saraiva Rodrigues holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (ULisboa), since 2016, and a PhD in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy (ULisboa), completed in October 2024. She has solid training in bioengineering, stem cell biology, and the development of advanced in vitro liver models. Joana has authored 8 peer-reviewed journal articles, including first-author and co-first-author publications, and 1 book chapter focused on advanced in vitro methodologies. Her work has been widely disseminated through 38 poster presentations and 20 oral communications at national and international scientific conferences in toxicology, pharmacology, stem cell research, and advanced in vitro systems. She has also been involved in the organization of 1 scientific event, contributing to community building and knowledge exchange. Her research has been recognized through 9 awards and/or honors, reflecting the quality and relevance of her scientific contributions. In addition, she is a co-inventor of 1 registered patent, highlighting the translational and innovation-oriented nature of her work. Her research interests lie at the intersection of stem cell biology, organ-on-chip technologies, and translational liver disease modelling. In particular, she is interested in developing advanced human-based in vitro models for MASLD and other metabolic diseases, with applications in drug screening, drug metabolism, and toxicology. Alongside her academic research, Joana has broadened her translational perspective through professional experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
