RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide diagnostic pathology services primarily on livestock (cattle, swine, sheep, goats and horses). Responsible for identifying and interpreting gross and histologic lesions and writing reports on the macroscopic, microscopic, and clinical pathologic changes occurring in animal tissues submitted by veterinarians and livestock producers. Also responsible for the interpretation and preparation of written reports on serology, toxicology and microbiology results. Responsible for 33% of the total cases coming through the laboratory (approximately 1000 cases/year) (Tulare Laboratory) Responsible for ~20% of the cases per year (San Bernardino). Manage four people in the necropsy and multipurpose laboratory (Tulare). Act as Branch chief and manage a dynamic and diverse laboratory (5 faculty and 25 staff and students) which involve pathology cases from Southern California, a bacteriology/Dairy and Poultry Food Safety Laboratory which works with animal samples and tests diary and egg products for food safety; and a milk quality/chemistry laboratory that California milk products for various important parameters of the products to ensure they meet FDA/USDA and CDFA requirements for safety and wholesomeness PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: American College of Veterinary Pathologists America Veterinary Medical Association American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians C.
