South San Francisco research site of Amgen, the American biotechnology company founded in 1980 with its head office at Thousand Oaks in California and listed in New York. The site, built up from the former Onyx Pharmaceuticals and later Five Prime operations on the peninsula, works on discovery research and early development in oncology and inflammation, protein and antibody engineering, translational science and biomarker work, feeding the group's pipeline of biologic and small molecule medicines.
