Celera Genomics

American genomics company founded in 1998 at Rockville in Maryland by Craig Venter with backing from PerkinElmer, which sequenced the human genome in parallel with the public project and published its draft in 2001. Moved into molecular diagnostics and drug discovery, took over Axys Pharmaceuticals in 2001, spun out of Applera in 2008 as Celera Corporation at Alameda in California with its Berkeley HeartLab testing business, and was bought by Quest Diagnostics for about three hundred and forty million dollars in 2011.
