Chinese national academy for the natural sciences based in Beijing, founded in 1949 and the country's largest research organisation, with more than a hundred institutes across China and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Runs institutes central to pharmaceutical research including the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, the Institute of Microbiology and institutes of chemistry, biophysics and genetics, carries out drug discovery, natural product chemistry, biotechnology and materials research, and holds and licenses patents to industry.
