American liberal arts college in the Eagle Rock district of Los Angeles, founded in 1887 by Presbyterian ministers and now independent. Teaches chemistry, biochemistry, biology, kinesiology and cognitive science alongside the humanities and social sciences, runs a summer research programme in which undergraduates work with faculty in the laboratory, and prepares students for graduate study and medical and pharmacy school.
