French public university in Lyon and Villeurbanne, created in 1971 and named after the physiologist Claude Bernard, built around health and science. Teaches through its faculties of medicine at Lyon Est and Lyon Sud, its faculty of pharmacy known as the Institut des Sciences Pharmaceutiques et Biologiques, odontology, and its science and technology departments, works with the Hospices Civils de Lyon for clinical teaching and trials, and carries out research in pharmacology and toxicology, medicinal chemistry, drug delivery, virology and public health with its own laboratories and joint units.
