I trained as a medicinal chemist at the University of Salerno (Italy) where I gained my degree (BSc and MSc in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology, part of the Pharmacy Degree) with a final year project on development of epigenetic inhibitors for the prostate cancer treatment. The interest in the fascinating field of drug discovery and epigenetics brought me to the United Kingdom in 2015 when I enrolled in a drug discovery PhD project in parasitology. I completed the PhD studies in October 2019 with a thesis titled “Identification of new compounds targeting the Schistosoma mansoni protein methylation machinery”. I have been working as a Research Associate in the drug discovery field, focusing on the early-stage compound identification, target validation, medicinal chemistry optimisation and pre-clinical drug development with in vivo studies on Schistosomiasis animal model. I always enjoy working in interdisciplinary environments and bridging the biological underpinnings of the specific research topic and the chemical investigation for drug discovery applications.
