Maria Gabriella Santonicola received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware (Newark DE, USA) in 2006. In 2007, she joined the Department of Materials Science at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Mainz, Germany) as a Postdoctoral Researcher. From 2009 to 2011 she worked in the group of Materials Science and Technology of Polymers at the University of Twente and MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology (Enschede, The Netherlands). In 2011, she was awarded the Rita Levi Montalcini grant from the Italian Ministry of University and Research and started as an Assistant Professor at Sapienza University of Rome. She has been an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Technology at Sapienza University of Rome since 2021 and an Associate Fellow of the National Laboratory of Frascati (Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics INFN) since 2020. Her current research activities are in the fields of advanced polymer materials and composites for space applications, stimuli-responsive hydrogels for biosensing and biomedical applications, and polymer characterization techniques on different length scales.
