I am a medical doctor and Professor of Pharmacology at Malabar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Kozhikode, India. My academic work focuses on clinical pharmacology, rational use of medicines, geriatric pharmacotherapy, antimicrobial stewardship, research methodology, evidence synthesis, and research governance. After completing my MBBS from Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolenchery, I obtained my MD in Pharmacology from K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Mangalore. Prior to joining academia, I worked in medical affairs at Abbott India Limited, where I served as Medical Science Liaison (Metabolics) and subsequently as Medical Advisor for the Vaccines Division. This experience strengthened my interests in evidence-based medicine, scientific communication, and clinical research. My current research is centred on improving the quality, safety, and rational use of medicines through clinical research and implementation science. I serve as the Principal Investigator of an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Safe and Rational Use of Medicines (SRUM) multicentric randomized controlled trial evaluating interventions to optimize polypharmacy in older adults. I am also involved in systematic reviews and collaborative research on digital health interventions, antimicrobial resistance, and evidence-based therapeutics. Beyond my personal research, I am actively involved in developing institutional research capacity. I currently serve as Chairman of the Institutional Research Coordination Committee (IRCC), which provides strategic oversight of research activities through multiple specialized subcommittees spanning research development, governance, ethics, funding, publication, innovation, and capacity building. I also serve as Member Secretary of the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC), which is recognized by both the Department of Health Research (DHR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). I have contributed to strengthening the institutional research ecosystem by facilitating Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) recognition from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India, thereby enhancing access to national research funding opportunities. My broader academic interests include clinical trials, pharmacoepidemiology, implementation research, research integrity, and building sustainable research systems within medical institutions.
