Co-trimoxazole, formulated at 400mg+80mg, is a combination antibacterial active against a broad range of organisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, E. coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Proteus, Shigella, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, N. meningitidis, and Haemophilus influenzae, with notably stronger activity against E. coli, H. influenzae, and S. aureus than sulfamethoxazole alone; it also shows in vitro activity against Chlamydia trachomatis, Nocardia asteroides, and Toxoplasma gondii.
