Injectable omeprazole sodium is a potent proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) that directly targets the gastric acid secretion "final switch," the proton pump, to rapidly and effectively suppress acid production. A prescription-only IV medication, it is used mainly for severe cases where oral dosing isn't feasible or rapid acid control is needed, including active gastrointestinal bleeding, severe gastric and duodenal ulcers, GERD, and prevention of stress ulcers or surgical complications in critically ill patients. Healthcare professionals must dissolve it in a dedicated solvent to prepare the infusion solution for IV drip administration, with an infusion time of at least 20 minutes recommended for safety and efficacy.
