Dr. John Mponda is a lecturer and registered pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. He has over 20 years of teaching experience in the training of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, and other health professionals. He holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Ibadan (2022), an MSc in Pharmacy from Taipei Medical University (2012), and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) from the University of Malawi (2009). Dr. Mponda is actively engaged in leadership, research, training, community engagement, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the areas of pharmacovigilance, medicines regulation, quality control, and the safety of conventional medicines, herbal medicines, and related practices. Dr. John Mponda has contributed to governance, oversight, and strategic direction in Malawi’s health and pharmaceutical sectors through key roles at the Malawi College of Health Sciences, Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST) Board, National Malaria Advisory Committee, and the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA). He is a strong advocate for equitable access to safe, quality medicines, particularly for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and other vulnerable populations, emphasizing good governance, reliable supply chains, effective regulation, and patient safety. Research interests • Traditional medicines and complementary medicines in HIV and non-communicable diseases (Regulation, standardization, Quality Control) • Herbal medicine pharmacovigilance, Herbal-drug interactions and HIV • Herbal medicine manufacturing (Research and development/dosage form design), • Conservation and Traditional knowledge and intellectual property • Drug and substance abuse • Medical Education and Continued Professional Education/Development , Antimicrobial resistance
