I am passionate about poisons, worker health, hearing, and environmental systems!
My mission is to equitably and sustainably improve wellbeing.
My training in leadership, education, inclusion, and compassion expands my versatility as a scientist.
I am curious about the impacts of metals, noise, and other hazards in mixtures.
I engage in collaborations on neurotoxicology, adverse outcomes in audiological systems, creative risk assessment strategies, innovations in simulation science, PBK modeling for metals, and nocebo effect.
I have explored impacts to hearing health associated with exposures to hazards through:
- Investigation physiological responses in the auditory system of occupationally relevant lead, cadmium, and noise exposures in an animal model
- Measurement of noise and metal exposures in Ghanaian electronic waste (e-waste) or scrap workers
- Exploration of relationships between essential elements as well as toxic metals and abnormal hearing observed in infants born in Michigan
-Mentorship of a graduate student on a review of jet fuel ototoxicity
-Systematic review of literature in epidemiology on audiological outcomes from solvent exposures
-Systematic review of evidence of ototoxicity in animals after exposures to xylene, toluene, styrene, ethylbenzene, and other solvents
My educational experience includes instruction for teaching assistants, graduate students, and undergraduate students. At the University of Michigan, I taught new graduate student instructors a variety of strategies to heighten engagement for students in both classroom and laboratory settings. At the undergraduate level, I taught courses on industrial toxicology, basic biology, animal physiology, and public health. At the graduate level, I taught environmental health science and guided students in evidence-based writing.
I support outreach activities to bring more voices and understanding to the field of science. I volunteered for Women in Science and Engineering, lay-audience communication, engagement in museums, and community-based research workshops.
I am committed to advancing diversity in science. I planned and hosted a webinar series "Active Inclusivity in Toxicology" for the Society of Toxicology (SOT). I have served as Secretary, the Professional Development Chair, and the Mixtures Graduate Student Representative for the Graduate Student Leadership Committee of SOT.
