Lead Pharmacist - Clinical Trials

Lydia Sutherland is Lead Pharmacist for Clinical Trials at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Liverpool. Her research interests include computational approaches to predicting treatment response in cancer, particularly pharmacometric modelling and its integration with genomic and pathology data. Lydia completed her MPharm (2014) and MRes in Experimental Cancer Medicine (2020) at the University of Manchester, the latter supported by a Cancer Research UK Major Centre Bursary. As an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow (2022–2025), she gained experience in statistical programming and population-level outcome analysis, investigating sex-based differences in treatment response and eligibility criteria in early-phase oncology trials. She has also undertaken training in model-based drug development at the University of Manchester. She leads a team of 38 pharmacy professionals supporting over 500 cancer clinical trials annually, contributes to national research infrastructure, and is a founding member of the ECMC Pharmacy Working Group. She has developed postgraduate teaching content on clinical pharmacology studies for the University of Manchester and delivers training on trial methodology for the British Oncology Pharmacy Association.
