Chair and Associate Professor

Noémie Elhadad is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University and Director of Medical Information Services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. She is affiliated with Columbia's Department of Computer Science and the Columbia Data Science Institute. Dr. Elhadad obtained her PhD in Computer Science focusing in natural language processing of biomedical and clinical texts. Dr. Elhadad’s research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, human-centered computing, and medicine, with a focus on developing novel machine-learning methods. She creates methods and tools to support patients and clinicians in their information needs, with particular focus on ensuring that AI systems of the future are fair and just. In 2023 she was listed on the AI 100 List from Business Insider and she was the recipient of the Donald Lindberg Award for Innovation from the American Medical Informatics Association.
