EDUCATIONAL HISTORY AND POSITION HELD: 1965-1969 - prom.farm. (Comenius University Pharmaceutical Faculty,Bratislava,SK) 1972 - RNDr. (Comenius University Pharmaceutical Faculty,Bratislava,SK) 1984 - Ph.D. (Charles University,Prague,CZ) 1969-1978 - research worker (Institute of Drug Research, Modra,SK) 1978 till now – senior research worker (Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology SAS, SK) After my research stay at the Institute of Drug Research where I was engaged in the search for new morphine plant sources, I have been working at the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology. Since 1974 I am interested in the field of cardiovascular pharmacology. First I did screening of beta-adrenolytic drugs, mainly evaluating their activity in anaesthetised dogs in vivo. Later I focused on pharmacology of arterial smooth muscle in functional studies on preparations of arteries of dogs, guinea-pigs and rats. I studied the mechanisms of the effect of newly synthetised drugs (local anaesthetics, antiarrhythmics, calcium entry blockers, drugs of natural origin) on different receptor systems. Now I am focused on the study of the effect of oxygen free radical (OFR) generated chemically or under pathological situations such as ischaemia and reperfusion and diabetes on vascular smooth muscle and endothelium as well as the influence of antioxidant drugs on changes induced by OFR. I was on 2 short study stays in Russia and Bulgaria and in 1992 I was on the study stay (6 months) at Catholic University Louvain, Belgium, at the laboratory of prof. Th. Godfraind, who is well known by his research in the field of calcium entry blockers. At present I am a head of the Department of Cardiovascular and Smooth Muscle Pharmacology. I have been training students of Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Natural Sciences and postgradual students. I elaborated several judgements for the defences of final university works, Ph.D. theses, applications for grants, manuscripts for scientific journals, etc., as well as judgements for pharmacological and toxicological documentation on several medical preparations and clinical studies. I was a member of Efficacy working party in European Medicines Agency and a member of the organising committee of 8 scientific conferences.
