Research and development site of the British Swedish group AstraZeneca at Gaithersburg in Maryland, built up from the MedImmune business the group bought in 2007 and now one of its three global strategic research centres. Carries out biologics research and development in oncology, respiratory and immunology and vaccines and immune therapies, runs antibody discovery, protein engineering and biologics process development, operates clinical development and regulatory functions for the United States, and manufactures biological drug substance on site.
