British pharmaceutical business of the Beecham Group, which grew from a pill maker founded by Thomas Beecham in 1842 into a research based company after the Second World War. Its laboratories at Brockham Park isolated the penicillin nucleus in 1957 and produced the semi synthetic penicillins including ampicillin, amoxicillin and the clavulanic acid combination, and the business merged with SmithKline Beckman in 1989.
