American private Ivy League research university in Providence, Rhode Island, founded in 1764 and the seventh oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Teaches through the Warren Alpert Medical School, the School of Public Health, the School of Engineering with biomedical engineering and departments of chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry and neuroscience, and carries out research in brain science through its Carney Institute, biomedical devices and brain computer interfaces, therapeutic sciences and clinical trials with the Rhode Island and Lifespan hospitals.
