American consumer products and pharmaceutical company founded in 1880 as Carter Medicine Company and headquartered in New York, known for Carter's Little Liver Pills, Arrid antiperspirant, Trojan condoms, Nair depilatories and First Response diagnostic tests, and for the prescription medicines of its Wallace Laboratories division including meprobamate and felbamate. The company was broken up in 2001 when its consumer business went to Church and Dwight and its pharmaceutical business became MedPointe.
