Indian research institute at Adyar in Chennai, founded in 1948 and part of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the largest leather research body in the world. Works on leather processing, tanning chemicals, enzymes and effluent treatment, and also on biomaterials, collagen based wound dressings and tissue scaffolds, chemical and microbiological testing, footwear design and environmental technology, and trains doctoral students alongside its industrial services.
