Irish public university on the north side of Dublin, founded in 1975 as the National Institute for Higher Education and given university standing in 1989. Teaches chemistry, biotechnology, analytical science, health and physical sciences alongside computing, engineering, business and the humanities, runs the National Centre for Sensor Research and other institutes and works with pharmaceutical and medical device companies in Ireland on analysis and process research.
