Funds extramural research, designated cancer centres and cooperative group clinical trials, runs its own intramural laboratories and the Center for Cancer Research, supports the Developmental Therapeutics Program and the NCI-60 cell line screen for anticancer drug discovery, and publishes cancer statistics through the SEER programme and evidence summaries for clinicians and patients.
