Latvian technical university in Riga, founded in 1862 as the Riga Polytechnicum and the oldest technical university in the Baltic states. Teaches chemical technology, biotechnology, pharmaceutical chemistry, materials science and engineering through its faculty of natural sciences and technology, runs institutes of technology of organic chemistry and of general chemical engineering, and carries out research on drug synthesis, biomaterials and industrial processes with Latvian industry.
