French university in Paris, created in 1971 out of the faculties of the Sorbonne and named after Denis Diderot, with its campus at Paris Rive Gauche in the thirteenth district. Taught medicine, biology, chemistry and the humanities and worked with the Bichat, Saint-Louis and Robert Debré hospitals; since 2019 its teaching and laboratories, including work on drug design, infection and biomedicine, have been part of Université Paris Cité.
