American public research university at Kalamazoo in Michigan, founded in 1903 as a teachers college. Teaches through its College of Arts and Sciences with chemistry, biological sciences and environmental studies, the College of Health and Human Services with nursing, occupational therapy and speech pathology, the Homer Stryker School of Medicine, and colleges of engineering and applied sciences and aviation, and carries out research in analytical and medicinal chemistry, environmental science and biomedical sciences with its own laboratories.
